Hello. Thanks very much for resolving tpfan issues It is fan-tastic tool to keep this laptop cool and quiet (together with PHC undervolt)

I am english so had to translate this page (using google translate) NOTE: the google translate CHANGES the boxed code!!!!

      • Therefore only copy code from the German page!***

Two other errors: 1. A white pace in the line: sed -i 's/# Please also look if there are files or directories which have a//g' tpfan-admin_0.96-ubuntu1_all_patched/usr/share/doc/tpfan- admin/copyright

The correct version is: sed -i 's/# Please also look if there are files or directories which have a//g' tpfan-admin_0.96-ubuntu1_all_patched/usr/share/doc/tpfan-admin/copyright

2. When this is install is carried out on Ubuntu 11.04 gnome all looks ok but there are broken dependencies: So after the install I went to synaptic and auto fixed the broken package: tpfand-admin. This installed python and KDE dependencies and then everything works fine (after re-boot)

Thanks again zcat

Thanks for your comment. I've just corrected the mistake and do hope that there are no further typos ;) The thing with a broken package your are talking about might also result from that typo. I've already been thinking about a possible googlecode-project to revive TP Fan Control or at least to make sure that it works with modern distros, but at the moment I'm really lacking spare time. May be in August or September.

First of all: Thanks a lot for your how to !!

I run Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS on a T60. I am having a problem to install the patched deb-files.

orchid@t60:~$ sudo dpkg -i tpfand_0.95-ubuntu1_all_patched.deb
Reloading thinkpad_acpi module...
FATAL: Module thinkpad_acpi is in use.
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von tpfand (--install):
Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück
Verarbeite Trigger für man-db ...
Verarbeite Trigger für ureadahead ...
Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von:
tpfand

Can you give me a hint how I can solve this? Thanks alot in advance!!!

Hi, I've already faced a similar problem when trying out Xubuntu 11.04 but I considered that to be a Xubuntu specific bug. Anyway, the problem is that tpfand install routine adds additional configuration options to the thinkpad_acpi module which allow you to control the fan. After that the module is unloaded and loaded again. Apparently, sometimes the kernel forbids to unload the module because it is in use and because of that the install routine fails. I'll update my script very soon to fix that. The downside will be that you'll have to reboot after installing tpfand, in order to make it work. --Myon 19:24, 29. Aug. 2011 (CEST)

EN: For all those who are interested in Thinkpad Fan Control. I've just created a googlecode project to maintain tp-fan's code and provide deb's for recent Ubuntu versions. Check it out: http://code.google.com/p/tpfanco/

Sep. 2011 (CEST)
